The Saudi flag carrier airline, Saudia, is once again placing its bets on the Costa del Sol for the upcoming summer season. The company recently revealed plans to strengthen the link between the Costa del Sol and Riyadh by announcing an increase in direct flights to Malaga Airport. Confirming its commitment to the region, Saudia will now operate three direct flights weekly between Malaga airport and its hub in the Saudi capital, marking an increase from the pre-pandemic schedule.
Starting from the 7th of June until the conclusion of August, Saudia will connect the capital of the Costa del Sol with Riyadh every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This decision comes after assessing demand, with positive indicators observed during its participation in the Fitur International Tourism Fair in Madrid. The airline is optimistic about the future, anticipating new connections for the upcoming summer and, consequently, expanding its schedule and operations at Spanish airports.
In addition to reinforcing the Costa del Sol connection, Saudia is set to enhance flight frequencies between Barcelona and the Saudi cities of Jeddah and Riyadh. The coastal city of the Red Sea will now receive four weekly flights, with two new flights to Riyadh on Wednesdays and Fridays. Madrid will continue to maintain regular operations to the airline’s primary hub in Jeddah, with four weekly frequencies on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
“The increase in frequencies from domestic airports will allow tourists from Spain not only to travel to Saudi Arabia but also to connect with destinations experiencing high demand during the summer season. These destinations include Nairobi, Dar Es Salaam, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, and Johannesburg, among others,” the company stated.
Saudia, with its roots dating back to 1945, stands as one of the largest airlines in the Middle East. It boasts one of the youngest aircraft fleets globally and operates an extensive route network covering approximately 100 destinations in the Middle East, Africa, the Indian subcontinent, the Far East, Europe, and the United States. This network includes Saudi Arabia’s 28 domestic airports, reflecting the airline’s significant presence and influence in the aviation industry.
