Name: Faro International Airport
Airport Code: FAO
Faro Airport serves the popular holiday areas of the Algarve in Portugal and is in fact the only airport if you are flying in to this part of Portugal.
It is still relatively small in terms of the airports found in much of neighbouring Spain for example but still manages to cater for around 5 million passengers each year.
There are a number of flights to and from other european countires although it is at its busiest during May to October for the main holiday season of the Algarve.
The Airport is located around 30 minutes from the Spanish border and about 7kms from the actual city of Faro.
Facilities at Faro airport are not that good although adequate. There are some cafes and of course a few shops but not the same as many other international airports serving popular holiday destinations.
The transport links to and from the airport are just by road with very few buses operating so most passengers arriving at Faro Airport tend to hire a car or jump in a taxi, of which there are always many waiting outside the airport.
If you need a bus you will also find the main bus stops to the right of the arrivals hall.
